Chicken & Caviar
If you haven’t heard of the chicken and caviar trend, you might have been living under a rock! When we had this dish initially, it wasn’t quite as popular. However over the course of 2025, everyone was jumping on the trend, with one of the biggest winners of this being McDonalds! The humble Chicken McNuggets have been famously paired with luxurious caviar enough times to make it a viral sensation. In the US, they even offered a valentines McNuggets and caviar combo (very clever imo!)
There’s just something about the familiar, crispy and salty fried chicken, that works so well with the delicate and opulent caviar. The combo is usually served with creamy creme fraiche or soured cream.
Barnacle Liverpool
We were on a little weekend stay in Liverpool when we stumbled across a street food truck by Barnacle, whilst on a walk around the dock. The original location of Barnacle is set within the Grade II listed former School for the Blind on Hardman Street in Liverpool. They celebrate the city’s maritime soul with seasonal, sustainable, field‑to‑fork menus. These are crafted by their chefs Paul and Harry Askew, alongside Merseyside’s finest producers and artisans. Inspired by “Captain Barnacle Bill” their story unfolds based on the cultural influences which he brought back from the voyages and posts held around the world.
The street food truck obviously has a reduced menu. However when we saw they were offering fried chicken and caviar, we had to try it. And honestly, it was INCREDIBLE. We both agreed that it was actually even worthy of being on both of our off menus (IYKYK)! And so here I am, dedicating this whole post to one delicious dish we happened to stumble across!
The Decadent Dish
The famous dish includes chicken breast marinated in a signature spiced buttermilk coating. It is fried to order and served with fresh lemon and a tarragon dipping sauce. Then obviously cremé fraiche and caviar, though this part is optional, so you can just opt for the chicken if you like. The chicken is £9, and the addition of caviar is £10 extra.
Obviously £19 is quite a lot to pay for one dish, but expectedly caviar is very expensive, and trust me – this is SO worth it. The chicken is cooked to perfection. It’s deliciously crispy on the outside, and tender in the middle. You get a very generous helping of caviar for £10, and the tarragon dipping sauce is also incredible. We were so pleasantly surprised by this since we hadn’t previously heard of Barnacle but were just intrigued by the dish. We actually speak about how good this was on a semi-regular basis!
Go try it!
If you’re ever in Liverpool, I would so recommend you go and try this. I definitely want to visit the main restaurant now. You can actually get a starter portion of this in their restaurant. Perfect if you’d rather have a sit down dinner experience.
The street food truck also offers a small but delicious offering of a burger, fried chicken sandwich, oysters, shrimp on toast, croque monsieur and pie of the day. Honestly a winning menu in my opinion.
We will 100% be going back for more!
