Barcelona City Break

Welcome to day 1 of our Barcelona travel itinerary!

If you know us or follow us on socials (Laura here and Robbie here), you will know that we love travelling to other cities and countries for gigs. Our latest adventure took us to Barcelona to see President. This was actually kinda unplanned! We tried to get tickets in the UK and they sold out so quickly, but since we love to travel for gigs we decided to look at a few European options. Often the price to get to a European country can be cheaper than travelling to go to London, plus the gig experience is SO much better. And we obviously get to make a mini holiday out of it, so win-win!

Luckily there were plenty of tickets left for Barcelona, and its somewhere I’ve (Laura) actually never been before, so it was the perfect excuse for a little city break. We managed to get some cheap flights (less than £100pp return each) and so we booked!

We only had 3 days in total, but I think we absolutely nailed it with our itinerary! I’ve shared a post about all the tapas bars we had on our list (here), but I thought I’d do a little day-by-day run down of exactly what we did, in case you’re into similar vibes or if it helps with your planning.

So lets get into it with day 1…

Morning – Lunch

We did a morning flight from Manchester so we had most of the first day. With the time difference we landed at 11.30am ☀️. Perfect to get through customs and head straight for lunch!

First stop was obviously tapas! I’d been looking forward to our first traditional tapas and a cold beer for ages! We went to a great little spot called Centric Raval which I’d found online before we went. This is a really old restaurant with amaaaazing tapas. We had padron peppers, tortilla, bread with tomato and ‘bombas’, which was basically a giant spicy meatball with sauce. 10/10. We had a few drinks and chilled for a little bit, before heading to our hotel.

Afternoon – Evening

We then checked into the hotel at about 4pm. We stayed at a place called Petit Palace Trencadis. I wouldn’t rave about the place, but we basically just chose somewhere that was local to all the areas we wanted to visit, and had all the basic amenities. It did also have a rooftop pool, but unfortunately the weather in Feb is definitely not outdoor-swim worthy!

It was time for a quick nap to recover from the early rise for out flight, then we freshened up and got ready for the evening 💃. Before the gig we headed for pre-drinks at L’ovella Negra. We chose this as its pretty local to the venue, but I’d definitely return. It’s a huge beer hall and really cool inside, plus the drinks are super affordable.

Barcelona, Spain Travel - President Band - Gig at La Nau

The Gig

The gig itself was INCREDIBLE!! It was at a cool venue called La Nau. It’s pretty small so it was really intimate. Again (this is a trend for most of the trip tbh) the drinks were really affordable too. I would 100% try and go here for a gig again, such a cool space!

Dinner & Night Out

After the gig we headed for cocktails at Lucky Schmuck. This was one of our fave spots for cocktails! If you like dive bars AND great cocktails then this is for you. They have a €6.66 menu which is (again) a great price, and some delicious drinks. The plan was to try the food here but unfortunately they weren’t serving. The staff at Lucky Smuck’s were kind enough to let us bring food in, so Robbie popped down the street to a burger joint called Fast Eddies. He brought the guys some extra fries to say thank you 🤭! The burgers and the fries were actually really good. If you’re in need of something quick and on the go, or just last night, definitely try Fast Eddies!

And finally we ended the evening at our favourite dive bar in Barcelona – Nevermind. If you don’t know us, we are dive bar lovers. Enthusiasts. Connoisseurs even! We always seek them out wherever we go. There’s just something so great about loud music, cheap drinks and great vibes. I guess IYKYK! Robbie had visited here before so I was super excited for him to take us. Spoiler alert, we ended every night of our trip here! They actually have 2 locations, but the bigger site of the two actually has a skate ramp at the back. Very cool vibes, definitely recommend!

Stay tuned for day 2 🙂
