Good Pie Pizza
Vegas Eats
Good Pie Pizza Bar is located in the Arts District of Las Vegas. Being from Manchester, this area really reminded us of the Vegas equivalent of the Northern Quarter. Just a short (and cheap) bus ride away from the Vegas strip, is a tonne of amazing local bars, restaurants and shops, and this was definitely our favourite district for food, drink and hangs!
Before we left, we (obviously) did some research and saw that Good Pie popped up a few times. Plus we were recommended the spot by people we know too, so we knew it was a place we knew we needed to try. I know Vegas can seem like its mainly just gambling and drinking, but there are some amazing places, just like this one, away from the strip and the hustle and bustle. The local indies are always our faves.
In our opinion, pizza is always a good idea. However when we are travelling, we tend to try to stick to things we can’t get a great version of back home, or just super local foods. There are some great pizza spots in the UK, but I do think that the US do some unbeatable pizza. So one afternoon before heading for a tattoo and then to the infamous Freemont Street, we decided it was the perfect time to grab lunch at Good Pie.

Outdoor Seating
There’s actually not a tonne of places in Vegas to sit outside in Vegas. However as British people, we love to get out in the sun as soon as it shows a glimmer of hope in spring, milking every last drop until Autumn, and even braving the chilly but sunny winter days to sit in a beer garden. But those who live in hot climates just love air con and a bit of shade. So luckily for us, there were plenty of empty seats outside in the sun with our names on them. If you’re a sun worshipper like me, this is one of the few spots in the Arts District with sunny seating for lunch! I do need to caveat that they do have parasols and the sun is only on some of the seats for a portion of the day. So if you do want to sit out while you eat then maybe take that into account before you head down there.
Our Good Pie Experience
You can sit in the restaurant to do table service, or you can order at the window if you wanna sit outside or do take out. At this point we did hit a bit of an issue here, as we ordered at the window but didn’t realise that we needed to go in to the opposite end of the restaurant and wait for them to call us when the food was ready. After we’d been sat out for a while we checked in, but were told it was still being made. Over an hour later we were still waiting and asked again, and unfortunately we were then told that someone else must have taken our order since it wasn’t there any more, and that it would have been called earlier but we didn’t know.
The restaurant were super nice about it and offered us some more food or a pizza that was already ready. However we’d had our hearts set on the one we ordered. Plus we’d ordered a full one between us since we were huuuungry, knowing we weren’t having any other food. So we didn’t wanna spoil it by eating something else first! We’d opted for their deep dish pizza which is definitely nowhere near the realms of a light meal with room for sides! So if we’d accepted something else first, we wouldn’t stand a chance of eating our whole pizza!

The Meal
We did accept some meatballs as we figured something sans carbs that would tide us over whilst they started our pizza again from scratch would be a good idea. The meatballs were actually really delicious, although (as with the pizza) they were pretty big and more filling than anticipated! We were very excited when our highly anticipated main feature arrived. We went for The Good Hot in the Detroit Style.
Good Pie actually do a range of different pizza styles which I’ve never seen in a pizza joint before. They have Detroit style which is a square, deep-pan pizza with a thick crust. They also have Brooklyn style round pizza which is a variation of NY style ‘za, with a thinner, crispier crust. Then they have Grandma style pizza, which was new to me. This is a sort of cross between Detroit and Sicilian pizza styles. It has the classic Detroit square shape, but is known as an “upside-down” pie, where the cheese is layered directly on the dough with sauce on top. And it doesn’t stop there. There’s also Sicilian pizza with a more foccacia-like base, and then they have a whole section of ‘speciality pizzas’. If you’re not feeling pizza, they offer salads, pasta, a range of sides and apps, and desserts of course. The menu definitely has something for everyone.
Our ‘Za
Our pizza was INCREDIBLE. As anticipated (and ignored) it was super filling, especially after extra meatballs, however it was so worth the wait. The toppings are tomato sauce, mozzarella, chilli flakes, sausage, pepperoni, jalapenos, parsley, parm & Mike’s Hot Honey. We also added some titos vodka sauce, for good measure. The dough is super soft and fluffy, with a generous amount of toppings, and the flavours work so well together. Would 100% recommend and if we’d had time to go back I would have definitely tried some of their other items too.
Since they offer takeout we decided to get the rest of our pizza to go with us. However after carrying it round with us for no more than an hour, we realised that maybe it was more of a hinderance on our walk to Freemont, so we gave it to a homeless person who was super grateful.
(side-story time)
This somehow has become a bit of a tradition for us on holidays! We obviously end up over-ordering because we are likely at a restaurant we’ll never get to re-visit. Or at least not for the foreseeable! But instead of wasting anything we don’t try, we get it to go, and then offer it to someone who might need it. In New York we got free breakfast as part of our hotel deal each day, but we knew we would rather go try a cafe or restaurant, so we took the free meal with us and gave it to someone we passed on the street who was in need of it. Honestly it was such a nice start to the day to help someone out and feel like we were doing a little something! Anyway, getting slightly off topic there, BUT a nice thing to think about doing if you’re in a similar position!
If you’re heading to Vegas then you definitely need to head to the arts district. Good Pie should 100% be on your list of restaurants if you’re dining there. Go hungry!!
